Updated: Feb 22, 2021

Academus is thrilled to announce that we have been able to reschedule our event for LGBTQ+ History Month.

The Think Tank will now be taking place on Friday 26th February. We are so excited to announce we will be using the event as an opportunity to fundraise for Just Like Us

an LGBT charity specifically for young people, so please donate if you can.

We are so pleased to announce that all of our speakers will be returning:

  • Marcus D'Agostini

  • Meg Finlayson

  • Yentl Love

  • Alexandra Meghji

Talks will cover a range of topics, including:

  • the Odyssey

  • Dionysus and Deconstructing the Gender Binary

  • Marc Antony, Sexuality and Gender Presentation

  • Queer Coding and Constructing Masculinity in Classical film

The Think Tank will last approximately 90 minutes and will be followed by a 30 minute Q+A session. Academus Education has zero tolerance to any form of discrimination or inflammatory language. We ask that all attendees remain respectful of others and mindful of language they use. Whilst we encourage creative and thoughtful discussion, the human rights of trans and queer people are not a point of debate. If you have any questions regarding the security of the rescheduled talk or would like access to more information please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via email: info@academuseducation.org.

We will also be keeping a strict guest list policy so please make sure your Zoom details correspond to your registration details.

Unfortunately, last night an Academus event became the target of a serious and distressing cyber attack from unknown origins.

We at Academus deeply regret any distress and inconvenience triggered by the attack. We are taking the matter very seriously and we will be passing on the details to the police and Zoom for further investigation.

We have always endeavoured to make our platform a safe space for our staff and students and we are truly saddened that this was compromised. As a result, we will be conducting an internal investigation reviewing our safeguarding and cyber policies.

Following our investigation, we will be rescheduling the event with increased security and safety measures in place.

If you were at all affected by the events of last night, please contact us with any questions you may have via info@academuseducation.org

We have also attached the following useful support networks and resources if you feel you need them:
